GMG Ships Six-Minute-Charge Battery Cells to First Customers for Testing

GMG Ships Six-Minute-Charge Battery Cells to First Customers for Testing

Six minutes to charge, six minutes to drain, a thousand times over. Until this week, that result lived inside a battery lab in Indiana. On Wednesday, Graphene Manufacturing Group started shipping the cells to companies that might actually buy them.

GMG Ships First G®CELLS to Potential Customers for Testing

Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (TSXV: GMG; OTCQX: GMGMF) said on October 21 it has dispatched the first G®CELLS to potential customers for early-stage testing. More than 100 cells are expected to go out before the end of 2026. Defense and heavy mobile equipment are among the first target sectors.

The roughly 1.5 Ah pouch cells were assembled by the Battery Innovation Center of Indiana from GMG materials. Customers test them on their own rigs and report back. GMG calls them pre-commercial evaluation samples.

On September 17, this section noted GMG had not disclosed a timeline for customer samples. It has one now.

The numbers they will try to reproduce came out October 8: 1,000 cycles with no performance reduction, each charged and discharged in six minutes at 7C. A lithium titanate oxide benchmark fell to 80% of capacity within 82 cycles at the same pace. At the faster 10C rate, a separate GMG cell lost 10% after 393 cycles.

GMG still rates the technology at battery technology readiness level (BTRL) 4, meaning lab-validated, with no timeline to the BTRL 7 and 8 it is targeting. New shares help fund it: a US$10 million private placement at CA$2.15 closed September 28, and an at-the-market program of up to C$20 million is running.

ASP Isotopes Unit Signs Binding HALEU Framework With South Africa’s Necsa

ASP Isotopes Inc. (Nasdaq: ASPI) announced on October 15 that a subsidiary of Quantum Leap Energy (QLE) signed a Heads of Agreement with the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (Necsa). QLE is wholly owned by ASPI. The agreement sets a binding commercial framework for a joint venture to build and run a test bench, then a commercial-scale plant, for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) at Necsa’s Pelindaba site.

QLE gets about 80% and arranges the capital. Necsa takes about 20% for site access plus safeguards and licensing support. QLE already has HALEU supply agreements with TerraPower.

Right now the project is a test bench in a building under refurbishment. By its own disclosure, QLE has not applied its enrichment technology to U-235 or received permission to test it on U-235, beyond work under its Necsa services contract.

No capital cost or production date was disclosed. Financing is QLE’s job, and the plant would sit under South African nuclear regulation.

Eos Energy Expects Q3 Revenue of Up to $83 Million, Up About 170%

Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: EOSE), which builds zinc-based long-duration storage systems in the US, said on October 19 it expects third-quarter revenue of $82 million to $83 million. That is roughly 169% to 172% above a year earlier. Shipments rose about 23% from the second quarter as its second production line ramped up.

Margins are still negative, just less so. Eos expects a gross margin loss of 53% to 55%, its eighth straight quarter of improvement, against the 69% to 73% loss it previewed for the second quarter.

Backlog went the other way, to about $765 million from about $807 million at June 30. A previously announced $100 million order, one of six booked, came under an existing capacity reservation and added nothing to backlog growth.

Cash, including restricted cash, slipped to about $344 million from about $364 million. Every figure is preliminary, and the company’s 8-K says no independent accountant has reviewed them.

GMG, ASPI, EOSE: Forward-Looking FAQ

Are any of GMG’s 100-plus sample cells going into real products?

No. They are pre-commercial evaluation samples, and no supply or purchase agreement tied to the program has been announced. GMG says it will report material outcomes from the testing.

Has Quantum Leap Energy enriched any uranium at Pelindaba yet?

Not according to the company, which says it has not applied its enrichment technology to U-235. The test bench building is still being refurbished, and no capital cost or start date has been given.

Why did Eos’ backlog shrink to $765 million in a quarter with six new orders?

Backlog is reported after subtracting revenue recognized in the quarter, which outpaced new bookings. The $100 million order sat under an existing capacity reservation, so it did not lift the total.
