VR Resources Drills Nevada Porphyry for Molybdenum, Tungsten, Copper, Silver

Beijing moved quietly in February 2025, adding molybdenum to its list of controlled critical mineral exports. Tungsten restrictions had already tightened. The US Department of Defense, which bans Chinese-sourced tungsten from defense procurement starting January 2027, is watching both developments closely. Finding domestic supply of either metal has become a genuine national security priority.

VR Resources Limited (TSXV: VRR | FSE: 5VR | OTCQB: VRRCF) is not waiting for the policy environment to settle. As of May 6, the company has a drill rig on the ground at its New Boston moly-tungsten-copper-silver porphyry project in Nevada, with the first hole collared and going down. It is the second leg of VR’s first-pass drilling at a system the company has been mapping for three years.

What’s in the Ground

New Boston is a 3 to 4 kilometer skarn and porphyry system along Nevada’s Highway 95, carrying surface expressions of molybdenum, tungsten, copper, and silver across two main target areas: the East Zone, where VR drilled in 2024, and Jeep Mine to the west, which is the current focus.

The 2024 East Zone program returned over 1,500 feet of continuous stockwork veining with copper and silver mineralization in Hole 002. That result established the system’s scale. The current program is testing whether the western portion delivers stronger polymetallic grades. Induced polarization and conductivity geophysical surveys completed in 2023 identified coincident anomalies at Jeep Mine that, when the data was reviewed with the team at Dias Geophysical at the AME Mineral Exploration Conference this year, pointed to a potential center of vein intensity and sulfide density within the broader system.

That is the geological vector the drill is following: where IP chargeability and conductivity overlap most tightly, plunging steeply through a panel of north-dipping limestone and sheeted monzonite dykes with surface veining carrying moly, tungsten, copper, and silver.

The Metals Case

Molybdenum is not a fringe commodity. The global molybdenum market was valued at $5.11 billion in 2025, projected to reach $6.14 billion by 2029, growing at 4.7% annually. Prices have held between US$33 and US$42 per pound through 2025, with analysts forecasting continued strength into 2026 given constrained supply. SMM estimates a global supply-demand deficit of approximately 13,000 metric tons in 2026. The applications driving that demand span high-strength steel, aerospace alloys, defense systems, and emissions catalysts.

The tungsten picture is tighter still. China controls approximately 80% of global tungsten concentrate production. Export volumes fell 13.75% in the first three quarters of 2025. A domestic primary tungsten mine operating in the US at commercial scale would be the first in roughly a decade.

New Boston carries both. A porphyry system with commercial-grade moly and tungsten alongside copper and silver would check multiple supply chain boxes simultaneously.

The Program

Approximately 1,500 metres of drilling across two to three holes, anticipated to take two months. Analytical work runs in parallel at facilities near Reno: whole-core hyperspectral scanning and high-resolution photography at TerraCore Geospectral Imaging for alteration chemistry and vein geometry, and continuous multi-element ICP-MS geochemistry at Paragon Geochemical across all drill holes. Geochemical results are expected in the summer.

Dr. Michael Gunning, CEO and a NI 43-101-qualified person, is on site. The current program is expressly positioned as completing the first-pass drilling across the system, with Jeep Mine representing the next vector after the East Zone copper-silver results established scale.

What to Watch

This is early-stage exploration. No mineral resource has been defined at New Boston under NI 43-101 standards. The geophysical targets at Jeep Mine are well-defined and the geological rationale is clear, but drill results can and regularly do differ from surface predictions. Two to three holes across a 3 to 4 kilometer system is a first pass, not a resource estimate.

What VR has in its favor: three years of integrated surface work, a strategic location with road and infrastructure access, state-of-the-art analytical protocols, and a metal combination that sits directly at the intersection of domestic supply anxiety and tightening Chinese export policy. The summer results will determine whether the geological model holds underground. The policy backdrop that makes those results matter, if positive, is already in place.
