Neptune Digital Assets paid roughly US$20 a share for its SpaceX stake. It is now selling other investors the right to buy part of it at US$206. On the other side of the market, one compromised laptop at Binance just turned into a $6.3 billion problem.
Neptune Digital Assets Now Holds 112,000 Free-Trading SpaceX Shares
Neptune Digital Assets Corp. (TSXV: NDA; OTCQB: NPPTF) reported on October 29 that it now holds about 112,000 free-trading SpaceX shares, up from the 29,879-share first tranche it disclosed in August. The jump came as post-IPO lock-ups rolled off.
Part of that stake is already earning. Since August, Neptune has booked about C$320,000 in premiums from a covered call strategy, selling buyers the right to purchase shares it already owns at a fixed price. Options currently sit on roughly 60,000 SpaceX shares at an average strike of US$206. If SpaceX trades above that, those shares can be called away. The rest keep their full upside.
The entry price is what makes this interesting. In August, Neptune put its full position at about 163,000 shares bought at an average of roughly US$20, or US$3.3 million in total. The October release does not restate that total.
CEO Cale Moodie said the aim is to “monetize frontier equity to support ongoing operations.” The company also said it is using debt to keep dilutive financings to a minimum, which means borrowings sit on the balance sheet next to the stake.
The crypto treasury hasn’t gone anywhere: about 427 Bitcoin and 37,900 Solana. At that size, every US$1,000 move in Bitcoin shifts the value of Neptune’s BTC by about US$427,000. Friday’s slide below US$78,000 was a live demonstration.
Binance Reports $6.3 Billion Security Breach, Freezes About $3 Billion
Binance said a security incident had an estimated impact of $6.3 billion, with around $3 billion in crypto frozen so far. It has pledged to cover all losses. If the figure holds, it is the largest crypto theft on record. Chainalysis puts its own estimate at about $5.9 billion.
The exchange’s initial read: an attacker got into a DevOps engineer’s laptop and used it to push unauthorized withdrawals through a service container. Binance said it found no evidence of a wallet private key leak and will cover losses from company funds and its SAFU fund (Secure Asset Fund for Users, its emergency reserve for breaches).
Bitcoin fell more than 4% to below $78,000 on Friday. BNB, Binance’s own token, dropped 7.68%. Circle froze more than $800 million in USDC tied to the incident. Binance.US said it was not affected.
Withdrawals remain suspended. Co-CEO Yi He posted on October 30 that withdrawals should begin resuming within 48 hours, though earlier Binance statements tied reopening to the issue being fully resolved. A technical post-mortem and an updated proof of reserves are promised once the investigation closes.
The numbers are still moving. Everything above reflects Binance’s statements as of October 30 UTC, and the final loss has not been determined. Check Binance’s official channels for current status.
NDA, Binance Hack: Forward-Looking FAQ
Those shares can be called away. Neptune would sell them at the strike and keep the premium, but give up any gain above US$206. The release gives no expiry dates, so timing is unknown.
Binance says it will cover all losses from company funds and its SAFU reserve. It has not said how much of the unfrozen amount it expects to recover.
Co-CEO Yi He said on October 30 that withdrawals should begin resuming within 48 hours. Earlier statements made reopening conditional on the security issue being fully resolved, so treat the 48 hours as a target.
