Faeth Therapeutics Jumps 18% as Cash Grows to $186 Million

Faeth Therapeutics and Veru posted double-digit stock gains on the same Monday, for reasons that had nothing to do with each other. Faeth used its quarterly numbers to show it is sitting on nine times the cash it had six months ago. Veru used its own earnings call to confirm a trial enrolled faster than planned. Neither company announced a drug that works. Both moved the stock anyway.

Faeth Therapeutics Jumps 18% as Cash Position Grows Nearly Ninefold to $186 Million

Faeth Therapeutics (Nasdaq: FTH) shares rose about 18% on August 10, with investors zeroing in on its PIKTOR pipeline update days after the company reported second-quarter results and presented new translational data at a cancer conference. Cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities stood at $186.4 million at quarter’s end, up from $21.2 million at the end of 2025.

That jump traces back to February, when Faeth merged into what was then Sensei Biotherapeutics through an all-stock deal paired with a $200 million private placement. The combined company took the Faeth name in June and now trades under the ticker FTH.

PIKTOR pairs serabelisib, a PI3K-alpha inhibitor, with sapanisertib, which blocks two other nodes in the same cancer-signaling pathway. The Phase 2 trial testing the combination in second-line advanced endometrial cancer remains on track for topline data by year-end. A second study in HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer dosed its first patient in April, with initial data expected in 2027.

Faeth’s market cap now sits around $600 million, built almost entirely on a trial that has not reported results yet.

Veru Gains 17% After Obesity Trial Tops Its Enrollment Target

Veru (Nasdaq: VERU) shares climbed 17% on August 10. The trigger was enrollment, not data. The company’s Phase 2b PLATEAU trial, testing enobosarm alongside semaglutide in obese patients 65 and older, finished enrolling 239 patients against an original target of 200.

Enobosarm is designed to help preserve muscle and bone while patients lose fat on a GLP-1 drug, addressing a known side effect of rapid weight loss on Wegovy-type medications. Veru already has a supply agreement with Novo Nordisk to support the trial, and the U.S. Patent Office issued a notice of allowance this month for a patent covering the enobosarm-semaglutide combination through October 2044.

The company posted a $7 million net loss for its fiscal third quarter, narrower than the $7.3 million loss a year earlier. According to Veru, interim results from PLATEAU are expected in the first quarter of 2027, with final topline data due at the end of that year.

That leaves a long wait. Nothing about full enrollment guarantees the drug combination actually works.

FTH, VERU: Forward-Looking FAQ

If Faeth’s PIKTOR data disappoints at year-end, does the company’s cash position still matter?

It matters for survival, not for the stock reaction. The $186 million gives Faeth runway regardless of the endometrial cancer outcome, but a negative Phase 2 readout would still hit the shares hard since PIKTOR is effectively the company’s only near-term catalyst.

Does full enrollment in Veru’s PLATEAU trial mean investors will know if enobosarm works by year-end?

No. Enrollment completion only starts the clock. The first data readout is interim results in Q1 2027, roughly five months away, with final topline data not expected until Q4 2027.
