Wicheeda Rare Earth Project Moves Into Pilot‑Scale Testing Phase

Defense Metals Corp. (TSXV:DEFN, OTCQB:DFMTF, FSE:35D) has appointed SGS Canada Inc. to conduct a 30‑tonne pilot‑scale flotation testing program on newly prepared drill core composite samples from its Wicheeda Rare Earth Project near Prince George, British Columbia. The program is designed to advance process flowsheet development and support future engineering studies.

Advancing feasibility

The pilot plant will generate about 1.5 tonnes of flotation concentrate, which will be used in a hydrometallurgical pilot plant later this year. Defense Metals CEO Mark Tory said the program represents the next major step toward developing Wicheeda as Canada’s first large‑scale rare earth producer. The initiative builds on the company’s 2025 pre‑feasibility study and ongoing environmental baseline programs.

Expert oversight

The program will be managed by metallurgical consultant John Goode, P.Eng., who brings over 60 years of experience across rare earth projects worldwide. Goode noted that the testing will de‑risk and optimize the metallurgical processing route, while generating critical data for the feasibility study.

Incentive stock options

Defense Metals also announced the grant of 7,375,000 incentive stock options to directors, officers, and consultants, exercisable at C$0.28 per share for three years, subject to TSX Venture Exchange approval.
