The 1890 Discovery That Built a Silver District
Ore clusters. When geologists find one deposit, the first question is what else sits along the same trend. British Columbia’s Lardeau Mining District has been answering that question for more than 130 years.
A note on names, since this ground carries more than one. Geologically and historically, it’s the Lardeau district. Silver Pony’s own current filings use the province’s formal boundaries instead, the Slocan Mining District and Revelstoke Mining District. Both are accurate, one historic, one the current legal designation.
Prospectors staked the Great Northern and Silver Cup claims in 1890, deep in the mountains above what is now Trout Lake. There was no road in, no rail, just steep valleys and rock worth the trouble. Trails, packtrains, and eventually a wagon road followed within four years, because the silver underneath was worth building for.
People came fast. Trout Lake City grew to roughly 5,000 residents at its peak, with stores, an assayer’s office, a schoolhouse, government buildings. Ferguson, up the valley, grew almost as fast: hotels, saloons, nearly 800 people by 1899.
The Silver Cup mine, worked from 1895 to 1915, is reported to have produced roughly 1.5 million ounces of silver, along with lead, zinc, and gold, hand-sorted and packed out by animals. This production figure comes from historical provincial mining records predating Silver Pony’s ownership. It has not been verified by Silver Pony’s qualified person and is not necessarily indicative of the mineralization hosted on any current Silver Pony property. The Broadview, True Fissure, and Nettie L. mines fed the same supply chain out of Ferguson.
The boom didn’t last. Silver prices fell, the easy near-surface ore thinned out, and going deeper without modern infrastructure stopped making sense. The district emptied by 1908 and was largely abandoned within a year. Silver Cup held on longest, producing gold intermittently until 1914.
Taranis Resources and the Modern Proof at Thor
The Lardeau camp closed because of economics and access, not geology. A century later, modern drilling and infrastructure have brought explorers back.
Taranis Resources (TSX-V: TRO) is the clearest evidence. The company controls roughly 6,000 hectares in the Silver Cup mining district, including the historic Thor deposit, and has drilled more than 250 holes there. A 2025 discovery hole in its Borr Zone extension intersected 5.25 metres grading 26.2 g/t silver, 0.163 g/t gold, and 3.55% combined lead and zinc, a modern, drill-confirmed result in the same belt the original prospectors worked with picks and dynamite. This is Taranis’s own reported result on Taranis’s own adjacent property. It has not been verified by Silver Pony’s qualified person, is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on Silver Pony’s property, and is provided here for geographic context only, not as an indication of exploration outcome or mineral potential on Silver Pony’s ground.
Further north, the Goldstream deposit adds another data point, long described as one of the highest-grade copper-zinc VMS deposits in the world, fully permitted, mill already built. Goldstream is an adjacent property under different ownership. This description has not been verified by Silver Pony’s qualified person and is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on Silver Pony’s property; it is included for geographic context only.
Mineralization on one property doesn’t predict what sits on another. Every figure here is Taranis’s and Goldstream’s own reporting, not a projection of Silver Pony’s ground. What the district shows is a repeatable pattern: real discoveries, first with picks and packhorses, now with diamond drills and airborne geophysics.
Ophir-Lade: A Century of Coming Back to the Same Ground
One target has its own story. The Ophir-Lade claims were staked in 1897 by the Lade brothers and later worked by Goldenville Mines Ltd., which built a small stamp mill. Documented historical production from the Lade workings totalled 12 tonnes grading 33.67 g/t gold. From the adjacent Badshot workings, historical production totalled 128 tonnes grading 6,408 g/t silver, 61.65 % lead and 0.71 % zinc (1896–1914).
These are historical production figures only. A qualified person has not done sufficient work to classify either figure as current mineral resources or mineral reserves, and the Company is not treating them as current mineral resources or mineral reserves. The sources are Minfile 082KNW032 / 082KNW033 and Assessment Report 31368. Key assumptions, parameters and methods are unknown; the figures do not use the categories in NI 43-101 sections 1.2 and 1.3; and verification work including drilling, modern sampling and a current resource estimate would be required to upgrade or verify any remaining mineralization.
Grab samples collected at Ophir-Lade in 1987, 1988 and 2021 returned 63.77 g/t Au, 39.0 g/t Au, 29.53 g/t Au and 20.23 g/t Au. These are historic, selective grab samples from provincial assessment records; they have not been independently verified by Silver Pony’s qualified person and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization hosted on the property more broadly.
This month, Silver Pony’s own field crew returned 103.0 g/t Au and 40.0 g/t Au from the same area. These 2026 results are also selective grab samples and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization hosted on the property more broadly.
Six samples across nearly forty years is not a resource, historic or current. What it shows is a target that keeps giving people a reason to look again, which is a large part of why Silver Pony is testing the same district with modern drilling instead of a stamp mill.
Silver Pony’s 37,000-Hectare Position in the Lardeau
Silver Pony Resources Corp. (CSE: PONY) holds 100% interest in roughly 37,000 hectares across the district, including tenures historically tied to the Silver Cup area itself, 48 known prospects, 11 mineralized trends across 60 kilometers of strike. More than six times the footprint Taranis controls, consolidated from a century of scattered claims into one modern, road-accessible package. This land-area comparison to Taranis is provided for geographic context only and does not indicate exploration outcome or mineral potential on either company’s property.
Six named targets make up the land package tested so far, with the maiden drill program now past 2,000 meters and ongoing:
- The Revelstoke Trend has mineralization mapped over 1.1 kilometers, never drilled before August 14, 2026. The first three holes each intersected galena-pyrite vein breccias at the marble and schist contacts, exactly where surface mapping predicted, with more holes now underway. A nearby grab sample returned 442 g/t Ag, and samples from the Northwest Trend nearby ran as high as 1,610 g/t Ag, alongside the 103 g/t Au already reported at Ophir-Lade. These are selective grab samples, not resource-defining data, and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization hosted on the property more broadly. The marble-hosted setting also raises carbonate replacement potential, the same style that built Silver Cup; this comparison is geological context only and does not indicate a resource on Silver Pony’s property. Assays are pending for all Revelstoke core.
- Ophir-Lade is the orogenic gold target covered above, resampled in 2026 at 103.0 g/t Au, a selective grab sample not necessarily representative of the property more broadly.
- Black Warrior and Old Gold are the district’s other drill-tested targets, both tested since July 2026. Historic sampling from provincial assessment records returned 3,549 g/t Ag at Black Warrior (Assessment Report 22917, P. Santos, 1993) and 12,147 g/t Ag plus 10.7 % copper at Old Gold (Assessment Report 30719, selective float sample). Jeremy Hanson, P.Geo., reviewed both reports and verified that the results are accurately reproduced from the cited historical sources. This verification does not constitute independent confirmation of the grades through resampling. Both samples are selective in nature and are not necessarily representative of the grade or continuity of mineralization across the property. A qualified person has not done sufficient work to classify these historical results as current mineral resources or mineral reserves, and the Company is not treating them as such.
- Horne Ledge and Central Corridor are two more showings from 2026 surface work, modest so far, single digits to low tens of g/t, part of the same broader package. These are selective grab samples, not necessarily representative of the property more broadly.
The Revelstoke observations are qualitative, what a geologist sees in the core, not what a lab measures. As the company’s own release put it, that kind of logging indicates mineralization is present, not what grade it carries. No assays have been received.
Most of that ground has no documented chain of ownership the way Silver Cup and Ophir-Lade do. What’s changed is immediate: all of it now sits under one company, consolidated for the first time in the district’s history, with a modern drill program testing it right now.
Prior operators have already spent more than $2.9 million CAD across the broader project area since 2007 on mapping, sampling, trenching, magnetics, and drilling. Silver Pony’s task now is to test with modern drilling whether the same mineralizing system that fed Silver Cup, Thor, and Goldstream runs through its own claims. This statement reflects a geological hypothesis only and is not a representation that any such system exists on Silver Pony’s property.
From Carlyle Commodities to Silver Pony Resources
The company is only weeks old under its current name, though the ground has been worked for well over a century. Silver Pony began as Carlyle Commodities Corp., a CSE-listed shell that absorbed the privately held Silver Pony Resources Corp. through a merger structured through three linked companies, backed by a $4.25 million private placement.
Up Next: Silver Pony’s Historical Sampling Data
A silver camp with more than a century of documented production. A district where active neighbors are proving the model still works. A newly consolidated land package now being drill-tested for the first time in decades, across three separate targets, Revelstoke, Black Warrior, and Old Gold, all showing the mineralization style their models predicted.
That raises the real question at the center of it all: are these isolated high-grade occurrences scattered across old claims, or the surface expression of one larger mineralized system? Those results are binary: they could confirm the model, partially confirm it, or not confirm it at all. As of the time of publication, no NI 43-101 (or equivalent) resource or reserve estimate exists on the Silver Pony Project, and none of the historical or third-party data referenced throughout should be read as verified for Silver Pony’s own ground. What the sampling on Silver Pony’s own ground actually shows, and what it doesn’t yet prove, is where Part Two picks up.

Data Verification and Historical Information
Jeremy Hanson, P.Geo., has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information presented in this article. His review included the underlying technical information and supporting records, including available exploration reports, sampling records, drill logs, assay certificates, analytical results and quality assurance/quality control data.
Historical information is derived from records prepared by previous operators. Verification of historical results is limited by the availability and completeness of the original sampling records, analytical documentation and supporting data. Review and approval of their inclusion in this article does not constitute independent confirmation of every underlying historical result. Specific verification limitations are identified alongside the applicable information.
Historical and recent selective samples may not represent mineralization across the property and do not establish average grades, continuity or economic viability. Float samples consist of loose material displaced from its original bedrock location and do not, by themselves, establish that source. Sample-specific sources, methods and limitations are provided alongside the applicable results.
Exploration Risk
Silver Pony Resources Corp. is an early-stage exploration company. Individual sample results and visual drill-core observations do not establish a mineral resource, mineral reserve or economically viable deposit. Visual observations of sulphides do not establish metal grades; laboratory assays are required to determine the metal content of sampled drill intervals. Historical mining activity and district comparisons provide context and do not predict exploration results on the Company’s property.
Exploration may fail to identify economically significant mineralization. Further work may require additional financing, which may not be available on acceptable terms and could dilute existing shareholders.
Forward-Looking Information
This article contains forward-looking information, including statements concerning planned exploration and drilling, geological objectives, the timing and interpretation of laboratory results, potential discoveries, future financing and potential proceeds from the sale of investment holdings.
Forward-looking information contained in this content is based on assumptions and expectations believed to be reasonable as at the date of this content, including that required approvals and financing will be available, contractors, equipment and personnel will be available as planned, and exploration activities and laboratory analysis will be completed on the anticipated timelines. Although such assumptions and expectations are considered reasonable, they are inherently subject to significant business, economic, market, technological, regulatory and competitive uncertainties and contingencies, many of which are beyond the control of Silver Pony Resources Corp. There can be no assurance that these assumptions will prove correct or that the outcomes contemplated by the forward-looking information will occur.
Such risks and uncertainties include, among others: the speculative nature of mineral exploration, failure to obtain necessary financing or approvals, exploration or operational delays, variations in laboratory timelines, results that differ from geological interpretations or surface sampling, and commodity-price and capital-market volatility.
